F1 Chinese Grand Prix 2017 Live race director Charlie Whiting has rejected calls for this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix to be held a day early because of poor weather. There was no racing during the second Friday practice session after weather conditions in Shanghai prevented the medical helicopter from landing at the designated hospital. The delays came because the FIA’s safety rules mean a helicopter must be able to transfer any driver from the track, by air, if there is a dangerous crash.

But the FIA rejected claims the race could be brought forward 24 hours and will continue as planned. Only 14 drivers’ registered a time with Championship rivals Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel completing just two laps each. The mist is expected to clear for Saturday and the teams are confident they will complete their third and final practice session followed by qualifying at 08:00 (BST). It means all the teams will go into Saturday without any of the data and race information that they would normally collect during the Friday session.

The last practice session will be far busier than normal as the teams and drivers look to make up for lost time, although the FIA have said they are not yet considering bringing the race forward to Saturday afternoon.News Source
